Happy February!!
I am not sure that is a normal greeting, but then again, what is normal? Normal in our world is setting worldly goals for the upcoming year. You know what I mean: I need to lose weight, I am going to eat better, I am going to get in shape, I am going to pay off debt, or maybe I am going to save money. To be honest, these are all good goals and will more than likely help you in your daily life; but will they help you eternally?
I just wonder, what is your top goal or priority for 2020? My hope and Prayer is that it is to Glorify God in all that you do. The Bible tells us, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor 10:31 NKJV) This tells us, that in ALL things…..Glorify God.
My question for you today is: Are you doing that? Are you taking the time to ask yourself, how can I glorify God today, before you even start your day? Are you glorifying God in your conversations? Are you finding ways to grow your relationship with Him and your knowledge of Him? Are you seeking ways to worship Him?
In our planning for this year, we have purposely tried to provide opportunities to do just that. By now, you have heard of the positive response to our Defense of the Faith Bible Study on Wednesday nights. We have had 65 – 70 persons attend each of these so far, which illustrates to me the hunger we have here at Saluda Baptist to grow in our walk with the Lord. If you are not attending, I want to personally invite you to join us this week!
We also have restarted Sunday Nights with both a Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies. The Women are studying Job, an interesting and unlikely study of joy. At the same time, the Men are starting the 33 Series, a study of what it means to be a man, modeled after the 33 years of Jesus life here on earth. These are both are wonderful opportunities to increase your knowledge of our Lord, while also enjoying fellowship with other Believers. Its not too late….if you have not joined us, please do so Sunday’s at 5 PM.
We also plan to have other events this year such as the Gospel Music night, featuring the group, Forever Changed. This will be an awesome opportunity to come and worship our Lord through song on Sunday night, February 23rd. Please make plans to come and enjoy this time and please bring friends and family with you.
How do you glorify God in your life? By making Him a priority. Glorifying God in everything means we honor Him in our thoughts and actions. Our thoughts are to be set on the things of God (Psalm 1) and the Word of God (Psalm 119:11). When we focus on God and His Word, we know what is right and can follow through with doing what is right throughout our daily lives.
John 3:30 tells us that He must increase, but I must decrease. Let this be your focus throughout the upcoming year.
In Christ,
Pastor Jeff
